Serbian New Year’s Eve Concert

Belgrade, Jan. 14, 2010, (Serbia Today) - One of the traditions among Orthodox Christians in Serbia is to celebrate the beginning of the new year according to Julian calendar, which is two weeks later than contemporary calendar . So, the January 1st according to Julian calendar is on January 14th. To mark “Serbian New Years Eve 2010”, Belgrade Opera organized Gala concert on Wednesday , January 13th.

Opera lovers had an oportunity to enjoy three hours of wonderfull performances and music by the most prominent Serbian opera singers and musicians. This spectacular event lasted till midnight. The arias from famous operas were sang by the legendary Serbian soprano Radmila Bakocevic and Bulgarian tenor rumen Dojkov among others. The public was particularly impresed by the duet of Tosca and Cavaradosi sang by them.

The participation of the Dance Group “Kolo” and the Choir and Orchestra of the National Opera further enriched this event. Conductors were Johanes Harnajt, Zorica Mitev-Vojnović, Dejan Savić, Ana Zorana Brajović i Đorđe Pavlović.

The production of the concert was done by Ivana Dragutinović Maričić and scenography by Aleksandar Zlatović.
